Safety & Covid-19

Fun But Safe

The Wyvern Rises is intended to be a fun event for all to share & we are allowing open fires for those who value the pagan life around an open fire near their camp.

In order to ensure that everyone is safe, this document outlines some basic safety guidance & explains the systems in place for maintaining fire safety & to deal with any form of emergency.

Fire Safety

PERSONAL CAMPFIRES

You are permitted to have an open fire in your camping pitch. However, the following rules apply:

  • Fires must be off the ground in a stable fire pan.
  • Fires must be located a minimum of 3m from any tent.
  • Fires must be proportionate to the location & the size of the of the fire pan.
  • Excessive sparks must be suppressed & if required the fire doused.
  • A “Fire Bucket” containing water must be in the vicinity of the fire to douse in an emergency.
  • Fuel oils are not to be used in fires (ie: Anything that cannot be extinguished with water).
  • Any camping gas cylinders must be stored a minimum of 4m away from any open fire & not exposed to direct heating.
  • Behaviour around the fire side should be appropriate to the hazards of an exposed flame.
  • Care should be exercised when wearing flowing clothing near to fires that may be flammable.
  • Be considerate to other campers & minimise smoke production from the fire.
  • Ensure grass is kept moist around the fire pan & does not start to burn (minor scorching of the grass may be unavoidable under the pan)

  • IMPORTANT NOTE: SHOULD EXTREME HOT WEATHER TRIGGER A COUNTY ” FIRE SAFETY” ALERT THEN CAMPFIRE PERMISSIONS MAY NEED TO BE REVIEWED

RITUAL FIRES

There will be fires used for the main ritual:

  • These will all be contained in2x Half Oil Drum fire pans on welded metal frame with 1m legs.
  • 5x Steel Torch Stands with woven basket cage.
  • No fuel oils to be used & oil drums used for pans are not contaminated with any oils or chemicals.
  • The ritual fires in the oil drum pans will be made from a coal base & natural logs.
  • The steel torches will use proprietary formed pulp fire bricks.
  • Review fire locations & safety measures with landowner for approval
  • If ground is dry, the ground in a 2m area around the ritual pits & 1m around the torches will be wetted (Not soaked) & maintained whilst fires are lit.
  • A fire safety watcher & fueller will monitor all ritual fires whilst lit.
  • 4 x Fire buckets containing water will be located close to the ritual area.
  • Priests to remind participants about flowing robes & fire risks.

FIRE BUCKET SAFETY & USE

Ideal for quick extinguishing and prevention of fluid spills and low-level fires.

For the purposes of our gathering, a plastic bucket filled with water or sand is defined as a fire bucket which is to be used to put out fires.

They are required to be located near any open fires or lit torches.

WATER FILLED FIRE BUCKETS MUST NOT BE USED ON ELECTRICAL FIRES OR ON POOLED OIL FIRES

In the event of a solid fuel fire resulting from an open fire pan spill, lit torch or travelling spark:

  • Shout FIRE!
  • Pick up nearest fire bucket.
  • Splash the water contained as close to the heart of the fire as possible.
  • Keep dowsing the fire location until all potential fuel material is soaked & temperature is close to ambient.
  • Do not endanger life to save property.
  • Avoid smoke inhalation.

First Aid

Volunteers trained to HSE FAW standards are located at the Alderman caravan or at the security post located by the main entrance to our field.

WE DO NOT HAVE AN AED OR MEDICAL GAS PROVISION

Emergency Site Evacuation

In the unlikely event of an emergency on site that requires evacuation of the field & campsite, then you are advised to move through the main entrance to the field & cross the track into the large main field opposite.

Stay in your camping groups to facilitate the roll call to ensure everyone is accounted for.

Anyone requiring medical assistance after an evacuation should make themselves known to the Alderman or Security asap.

Security

Whilst the site enjoys the benefit of a night watchman, you need to make sure that you consider your safety & security when on site.  Avoid leaving valuable unattended & unsecured even if your tent is closed.  We have never experienced theft at our camps, but we should not be complacent.

If you do have any concerns or problems then please come to the Alderman of the Gathering to discuss & get assistance.

Covid-19

Covid-19 control measures

Hopefully this will be a dim distant memory, but we will be fully compliant with any regulations still in place at the time of the gathering.
